VP leader Anura Kumara Dissanayake has informed parliament that 530 'undervalued' Prados and Land Cruisers imported last year have been released by the Customs without holding a probe.
The vehicles were released on a formal order passed by the Finance minister, he said, adding that the government incurred a loss of Rs. 470 million due to this.
Noting that 930 Prados and Land Cruisers were imported last year, the MP said that 710 out of this figure have been imported after being 'undervalued'.
He added that the Customs has initiated a probe on 180 vehicles imported in such a manner.
MP Dissanayake also charged that the Customs Director General had presented bogus facts during audits.
Noting that the FCID is holding an investigation on this regard, MP Dissanayake urged all his fellow ministers not to disrupt it.
Ravi, silent.
However, 'Sri Lanka Mirror' learns that Finance minister - Ravi Karunanayake had surprisingly remained silent throughout this revelation and this had caught the attention of those present in the House.
