He also said that foreign involvement in the war crimes probe has not been ruled out.
“He has not ruled it out,” the Prime Minister said when asked if President Maithripala Sirisena has ruled out foreign involvement in the process. He added that they will stand by its commitments in Geneva on the UN resolution.
The Prime minister also said that he is ‘certain’ that there are no detention centres ‘in the North or the South’ of the country and the only 292 individuals in detention are known to the government and there is ‘no one else’.
The Prime minister was also questioned whether the facility exists to prosecuted those including the Rajapaksas, if it is found that they have abused their power.
“Anyone in Sri Lanka can be prosecuted if there’s been abuse of power… Unfortunately many abuses of power are not offences in Sri Lanka. It can only be investigated by a select committee of Parliament or by a commission of Inquiry. But whatever leads to whatever is an offence under the laws of Sri Lanka, yes… anyone can be prosecuted… including them.”
