UPFA seeks replacement of Speaker

The United People’s Freedom Alliance says the party has focused its attention on appointing a new Speaker of House after the next Parliamentary session.

Parliamentarian Ranjith De Zoysa claimed that the present Speaker is acting in a biased manner.

He said they have observed the statement issued by Speaker Karu Jayasuriya adding as a member who represented the opposition for a period of time, he cannot fathom the statement by the Speaker.

Ranjith said the Speaker was being biased adding a stern decision must be taken against the Speaker who has made unilateral decisions.

Speaker of House Karu Jayasuriya yesterday announced that he is compelled to accept the previous status quo of Parliament, according to the composition prior to the present political instability, until one political party demonstrates its majority in the House.
