Donald J. Trump, the Republican Party candidate won the US presidential election with 276 electoral against the 218 electoral secured by Democratic Party candidate Hillary Clinton.
Trump is scheduled to take office as the 45th President of the United States on January 20, 2017. Meanwhile, Clinton has phoned Trump to concede the election. According to SKY News, Trump gave his victory speech in New York after clinching swing states such as Florida, Ohio and North Carolina. As fans chanted "USA, USA", he told his supporters:
"I have just received a call from Secretary Clinton. She congratulated us on our victory and I congratulated her and her family on a very, very hard-fought campaign." Mr. Trump said he was "reaching out" to those who did not support him. The forgotten men and women of our country will be forgotten no longer," he added. Clinton supporters were seen stony-faced or crying at what was supposed to be her victory rally in New York before being sent home by her campaign manager.
