Dayasiri Jayasekara says that the President did not issue an order to transfer Nishantha Silva of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID).
He made this statement yesterday (22) speaking at a Cabinet press briefing.
Dayasiri Jayasekara said he strongly condemns certain false media reports which said that it is the President who took the decision to transfer the abovementioned CID officer. The transfer was a decision of the IGP Pujith Jayasundara, and the National Police Commission (NCP) cancelled it afterwards, he noted.
When journalists inquired about the letter issued by the IGP, which says that Nishantha Silva was transferred under the instructions of the President, Dayasiri Jayasekara said that the IGP’s statement is untrue.
Journalists also questioned whether actions will be taken against the IGP over false statements; in response, Dayasiri Jaysekara stated that it must be done by the Constitutional Council.
