President Maithripala Sirisena has asked the parties that supported the no-confidence motion moved against Mahinda Rajapaksa over his premiership that it be submitted anew after making amendments in compliance with the law.

His request came this afternoon (15) at a meeting at the Presidential Secretariat with leaders of those parties, one of the participants told Sri Lanka Mirror.

Present were leaders of the UNF, TNA, SLMC, but not the JVP, which moved the no-confidence motion, and speaker Karu Jayasuriya.

Following the meeting, UNP’s Ravi Karunanayake said the discussion was cordial and that the president asked that the matter be resolved quickly.

Reports reaching Sri Lanka Mirror say the president has objected to appointing Ranil Wickremesinghe as the PM.

He stressed that he cannot function in a cabinet led by him, the president insisted.
