Namal Rajapaksa's statement 'on constitutional coup' during NDTV interview may be true - UNP

United National Party Parliamentarian Hesha Vithanage says there might be a certain truth to the statement by UPFA MP Namal Rajapaksa who claimed the appointment of Mahinda Rajapaksa as Prime Minister was a result of discussions with the President for more than four months.

MP Vithanage said this is somewhat evident when one observes the behaviour of the President over the last few months.

In an interview with NDTV MP Namal Rajapaksa yesterday said Mahinda Rajapaksa took oath as Prime Minister following a request by President Maithripala Sirisena.

He also said both parties continued to maintain official relationships after the 2015 Presidential Election.

Responding to the claims MP Hesha Vithanage noted the public is now aware that the President acted to fulfill his personal agendas.

The Parliamentarian noted the possibility of such an incident was unbelievable until it happened.
